September 2-6, 2021 | Challis, ID Living Waters Retreat "...a group of equals who come together to learn, worship, fast, pray, and assist each other who are desirous to come into the fold of God and to be called His people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens." September 2-6, 2021 | Challis, ID Living Waters Retreat "...a group of equals who come together to learn, worship, fast, pray, and assist each other who are desirous to come into the fold of God and to be called His people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens."
Retreat Logo Green

A Restoration Fellowship Retreat

The Glossary of Terms defines a Fellowship as “an individual, a couple, a family, or a group of families where there is no hierarchy; a group of equals who come together to learn, worship, fast, pray, and assist each other who are desirous to come into the fold of God and to be called His people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens (Mosiah 9:7).”

The Living Waters Retreat is designed to be a weekend of fellowship, connection, and friendship. This event will be different than past conferences. Its purpose is to bring believers together to spend quality time in the same place and practice Zion-like kindness and camaraderie. With a “choose-your-own-adventure” style schedule, the Retreat will allow individuals and families to worship and participate in fellowshipping in the way that is most comfortable and beneficial to them. With ample opportunities for study, gospel discussion, socializing, and fun, our goal is for the Living Waters Retreat to glorify the Lord and become more connected with one another.

The Retreat will take place at Living Waters Ranch, a conference and retreat center, that was created for the purpose of offering a safe and quiet place for people of any faith to gather, renew relationships, and forge a stronger connection with the Lord. The Ranch is located on a secluded and private property in Challis, Idaho and offers affordable accommodations for hundreds of people. We felt drawn to this location because we feel it is a place where we can get to know each other on a deeper level and allow the Spirit to direct our conversations.

We look forward to seeing you in September in beautiful Challis, Idaho!

FAQ

Why a Retreat instead of a Conference?

Because we have all been participating in conferences for several years now, our fellowship was drawn to the idea of taking elements from conferences but adding in more social time and activities. We loved the idea of having everyone stay on the same property where we will be able to spend more time together during the weekend. We realize that everyone comes to conferences/events for different reasons and want to facilitate the various needs of those among us. We want to provide ample opportunity for conversation and fellowship, activities for youth, and free-form study and discussion groups led by volunteers. This will allow each person and family to choose what they want to do each day based on their social and spiritual needs. This is our first time doing an event like this, and so it will largely be an experiment. We are optimistic and look forward to a wonderful weekend together where the spirit can guide!

I have questions about lodging and/or meal plans. Who should I contact?

Please email Brent Edward, our lodging and meal plan coordinator, at bythecampfire@icloud.com with your questions and he will get back to you promptly with answers!

When will the full schedule be available?

The Retreat planning committee has been working for months to make this event happen. We are actively working on the schedule and are relying on people to volunteer to lead study/discussion groups, classes, or activities during the Retreat. If you’d like to facilitate a study group/activity/etc. at the Retreat, please fill out contact form. Ideally we’d like to finalize all activity blocks and post the final schedule by July 1, 2021. However, don’t wait until the full schedule is released to book your lodging or make plans to attend. We can assure you the weekend will be worth your time!

Who should attend this Retreat?

This Retreat is intended for all Covenant holders or anyone with ties to the Restoration of the Gospel through Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. All ages are welcome. There will be many optional activities throughout the weekend meant for different age groups and interests. If you’re looking for an opportunity to fellowship and connect with like-minded individuals, this Retreat is for you.

Is there an admission fee to attend the Retreat?

There is no admission fee to attend the Living Waters Retreat. The only costs you incur will be from travel, lodging, food, and any other expenses associated with travel/being away from home.

How do I book my lodging and meal plan? How will check-in work?

If you plan to stay at Living Waters Ranch, please follow the steps below to book your lodging. Early check-in will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 2nd for those staying an extra day. If you plan to provide your own food during the Retreat, please understand what food you will be able to prepare based on the type of lodging you book. All tents and RV sites WITHOUT hookups have a firepit (with firewood provided) for you to cook your own meals. If you book a bunkbed in a bunkhouse, you will not be able to prepare any food beyond what you can eat out of a cooler.

How much free time will there be? Should I plan my own recreational activities?

Challis, Idaho is within a relatively short drive of many amazing recreational activities in Idaho. As the Retreat gets closer, we will post some recommended recreational activities you and your family or group can do on your own time over the course of the weekend. There will be enough going on at the Retreat itself that you don’t HAVE to go do anything on your own, but there will be blocks of free time where you’re free to do whatever you want, whether that’s participating in the study groups/activities going on at the Ranch, or going and exploring on your own.

What should I bring to the Retreat?

The average weather in Challis, Idaho in September is a high of 74 and a low of 41, so the weather will likely be variable. Plan to bring warm clothing, as it will always get cold as the evening progresses, but also bring also t-shirts and shorts.

Depending on where you are staying and in what type of accommodation, you will need to make sure you’re aware of what things you need to bring. Please note that if you’re staying in a bunkhouse or tent/RV, you will need to bring your own bedding and towels. If you’re staying in a Living Waters Lodge, Chalet, Motel, or School of Ministry room, bedding and towels are provided. Other important things to bring include:

    • Camp Chairs
    • Swimming Suits
    • Fishing Gear
    • Hiking Boots/Tennis Shoes
    • Warm Clothing
    • Sunscreen
    • Sunglasses/Hats
    • Bug Repellant
    • Travel First Aid Kit
    • Snacks (remember, there are only 2 planned meals per day)
    • Pillows, Bedding, and Towels (if not provided by lodging)
    • Camping Gear (if you’re staying in a tent)
    • Roasting Sticks
    • Games
    • Sports Equipment/Balls
    • Scriptures/Journals/Books
    • Guitars, Harmonicas, etc.
I would like to attend the Retreat but don’t have the means to do so. What should I do?

If you would like to attend the Retreat but are not in a financial position to be able to do so, we encourage you to seek financial assistance from your local fellowship first, as it can be difficult for the planning committee to meet the financial obligations of putting on the retreat and collecting funds to help people attend the retreat. If you don’t have a local fellowship and would still like to attend, please fill out our contact form and let us know what your situation is, how many in your family would like to attend, and whether or not you can provide a portion of the funds needed for you to attend.

Is there service at the Ranch? What about WiFi?

Cell phone service will depend on your service provider, but don’t count on it. WiFi is available throughout the entire property. The WiFi password is the same, no matter where you are:  john3:16.

Can I bring my dog to the Retreat?

Unfortunately, no animals are allowed at Living Waters Ranch. Please make arrangements for your pets before coming to the Retreat. Thank you in advance!
